It’s in our culture at Orlando Pirates to play with flying wingers, which is why we always have some of the best in the country at Mayfair. The second half of the season saw players like Sifiso Myeni and Thabo Rakhale hit top form, but what happened to Thabo Qalinge?
Section 10 was a wanted man last season, after being courted by league leaders Kaizer Chiefs, following an impressive campaign with Mpumalanga Black Aces.
It was revealed in Siyagobhoza in this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma that Qalinge is struggling to find his feet at the club, as they continue to look for ways to get the best out of him.
Section 10 only started for the club on three occasions this season. One would think that following the departure of Daine Klate and Tlou Segolela, that Qalinge would feature more often, but that has not been the case.
We could also argue that injuries played a role in Qalinge’s progress at the club and he may have needed more time to adapt to Pirates' style of play.
There is no doubt that he has some special qualities that the club can benefit from, and I feel that it’s only a matter of time before he really finds his feet.
He also has the best examples to learn from, as wingers like Rakhale, Myeni and even Mpho Makola know what it takes to make the grade. They could no doubt have a positive influence on Section 10.
Do you think Qalinge needs a little more time?
