Every year, the Premier Soccer League seem to dish out one or two special players who shine on the local stage, before making the inevitable move to a more challenging and demanding European league.
In this Fan Park feature, we take a look at a couple of PSL players who could be considered new to the local game and track how they have been doing.
Morne Nel (SuperSport United)
The calm central midfielder surprised many by adjusting ever so well to the SuperSport United setup, which calls for players to hit the ground running. The 18-year old maestro could earn himself a move abroad very soon because of his performances this season, with Tottenham Hotspur being credited with interested in the player.
Abbubaker Mobara (Ajax Cape Town)
In his second season with the Urban Warriors, Mobara looks a different, yet more complete player compared to last season. Last season, the defender was even used as a defensive midfielder, underlining his versatility. This season, however, he settled into a centre-back role and looks to be one of the most promising talents in South African football.
Thabo Rakhale (Orlando Pirates)
A late comer, so to say, the 25-year old winger burst on the scene this season with a succession of convincing cameo appearances for Orlando Pirates. The future looks bright for the crowd pleasing trickster, as he could well be drafted into the starting XI very soon.
Hendrick Eckstein (Kaizer Chiefs)
He may have only made one substitute appearance for Amakhosi off the bench this season, but he did so in exciting fashion. The nimble footed playmaker is sure to be a future star at Naturena, and with a number of experienced players in his position nearing the end of their careers, ‘Pule’ could become the next big thing at Chiefs .
