Oupa Manyisa is swiftly molding himself into one of Orlando Pirates’ legends at the club, having been with the Bucs since 2008 and he is a rock in the middle of our field. I take a look at his history.
Ace, as we fans affectionately know him, made a name for himself when he formed a dazzling and formidable partnership with Andile Jali in the middle of the park.
His emphatic displays, creative combination and attacking runs saw him lead the Sea Robbers to two treble winning campaigns.
He is also famously known for his cracker of a goal outside the 18-yard area against rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the final of the MTN8 in extra-time. Boy does that give me shivers to remember that beauty again!!
There is no wonder why he holds the record alongside Senzo Meyiwa as the most capped player for the Bucs. You just have to take a look at what he does on the field to appreciate his presence.
Let’s take the game against Polokwane City on the weekend for an example. In the 98 minutes he played, he amassed an impressive 61 passes in the game- only Thandani Ntshyamayelo bettered that- and an incredible 90,16% of those were successful.
To add more to it, his work rate is second to none. Throwing in four tackles, more than anyone in that game, and winning three of his seven ground duels, Manyisa puts his body on the line every time.
His three goals already in this season are also the cherries on top of one delicious cake he has iced.
There certainly is no faulting Manyisa’s contribution to the team and his presence. They said that he went on trial to the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United before us, and if that was the case then I am relieved to have seen him not handed a deal because he is a Buc through and through.
