There is no question that at Mamelodi Sundowns, we boast one of the strongest squad in the country. When it comes to depth, we should have no problem with players, but we have not let that privilege work to our benefit this season. Why is that?
There is only one reason we as fans can think of, and it could be a lack of unity hindering our chances at consistently winning trophies.
It’s almost impossible to keep close to 40 players happy at a club, with their ultimate goal being to play first team football. Coach Pitso Mosimane has done ever so well since taking over at Chloorkop, winning the league title last season after almost a decade of not winning any silverware.
However, the only way we can win trophies on a consistent basis is if we form a strong backbone in the team and build the squad around players who make up the spine of the starting XI.
Newly crowned league champions Kaizer Chiefs won the league with a squad which many may deem as thin, or lacking in strength from the bench, but we forget that the team that had been successful for the last four to five years, have been playing together for quite some time now. That, I have to say, is unity at its finest.
With that said, do you think we can improve our quality in actually decreasing the size of the squad?
