Possible Reasons Why Tefu Is Stalling

Tefu Mashamaite is one of three players who are said to be stalling on the renewal of their contract extension with Kaizer Chiefs, but what are the reasons behind it?

For a player in South Africa, playing for Chiefs is one of the highest points a footballer in this country could accomplish, and once you spend four years with the Soweto Giants, you dream of something bigger.

Here are possible reasons why Masha may be delaying his contract extension…

He Is Dreaming Of A Move Abroad
As mentioned above, once a player has won all he can with a team, his aspirations of making a move abroad grow even bigger. According to the Siya Crew, Tefu is eager to see out the end of his career playing abroad, and that is probably a large reason why he is holding back from putting pen-to-paper. A move abroad may not necessarily mean Europe, but even in the Middle East, where big money can be made.

Things Aren’t Too Peachy At The Naturena
Chiefs may be on top of the league table, but the fact of the matter is that something is happening behind closed doors. The club is refusing to add new depth to the squad, has little trust in youth and is struggling to secure the signatures of Khune and Masango, while the likes of George Lebese, Ivan Bukenya, Matthew Rusike and Josta Dladla are all without a deal too. This uncertainly could play a part in Tefu’s decision.

Baxter Uncertainty
Since Tefu arrived at the club, Stuart Baxter has been with the defender all the way, but that is not certain next season. Despite having a contract until the end of the following season, Baxter’s future still sits in a precarious position and that could also affect Masha’s decision-making progress.

If He Signs Now There Is No Exit
If the 30-year-old pens in a new deal with Chiefs now, it will certainly mean he is not allowed to move elsewhere. This will of course be a problem if a team abroad comes knocking… If he is waiting for a move to go overseas, he is right to be stalling on an extension. Chiefs will certainly need him next season, so if no deal comes along, he knows he will always have them to fall back on.

Khosi fans, I am hoping that Tefu stays on. What do you think is the reason behind Masha delaying his decision?
