Good morning Khosi fans! All attention has now been directed to the forthcoming Soweto Derby, in what will be a crucial match in terms of the league race. With Chiefs sitting at the top of the table, there are a number of players who could decide the derby for Amakhosi.
Today, I take a look at which players I believe could be the men to secure the bragging rights for Chiefs.
The midfielder may have started the new year looking a bit fatigued, but last night he proved decisive when he found the back of the net against Ajax Cape Town. Masango has proven this season that he can be a regular contributor in front of goal, and he could well be the man that could step up in place of our misfiring strikers.
Everything Yeye touches turns to gold this season. He has been an integral part of Chiefs this season, where he has found the back of the net more times than anyone but Masango, and was largely instrumental in the 19-match unbeaten run. His return to action, following two weeks off for compassionate leave, made an immediate impact as Chiefs bounced back from their first defeat of the season.
The shot-stopper was back in goal for Amakhosi last night after Brilliant Khuzwayo injured his finger, and he helped keep a clean sheet against the Urban Warriors. Khune has always been a crucial component to the Chiefs set-up and, if he starts on Saturday, he could well prove decisive for this massive fixture.
The towering defender has been largely instrumental in keeping Chiefs’ backline watertight, but there is something else outside of his defensive skills that have earned him a spot on this list. Tefu has managed to raise his game to another level at times this season and he has found the back of the net on several occasions. In fact, it was his goal in the MTN8 final which saw Amakhosi win their first derby of the season.
