The recent international break has been a very interesting one for European teams, as they have had to juggle between friendlies and Euro 2016 qualification.
The Fan Park Crew takes a closer look at a few stars that might miss out on Euro 2016.
Edin Dzeko – Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Manchester City frontman is his country’s top striker and with things not looking too good at his club, he will be hoping Bosnia can turn things around in qualifying. He and his teammates currently find themselves in third sport in their group, so they may miss out.
Nemanja Matic – Serbia
The Chelsea man is a rock in midfield and recently scored his first goal for his country against Portugal. Serbia currently find themselves in fourth place in their group and if they don’t start picking up points soon, they will not be going to France.
Arjen Robben – Netherlands
Next year’s Euro’s might not feature one of the best players of last year’s World Cup. The Netherlands have struggled throughout qualifying and they don’t seem to be a settled unit under Guus Hiddink. The Dutch can mathematically still make it to France, but they will need to start hitting their straps soon!
Alan Dzagoev – Russia
Dzagoev made a name for himself at the 2014 World Cup, but things don’t look good for him in Euro qualifying. Russia are currently sitting in fourth position in their group and need to start picking up points if they want to reach the final showpiece.
Xherdan Shaqiri – Switzerland
Switzerland have a real golden generation, but unfortunately have found things difficult since the World Cup. The Inter Milan midfielder hasn’t quite lit up the qualifiers as expected and may need to find some form quickly, if he is to help his nation qualify for France.
Can you think of any other European players that we may not see at Euro 2016?
