When the transfer window opens, it usually sees a host of names linked to Orlando Pirates. Some players arrive at Parktown expressing excitement, while others don’t always land up on Pirates’ ship.
Here are a few names that were linked with Pirates but never made the switch…
Almost every transfer window that passes sees Chippa United's Nigerian centre-back linked with Orlando Pirates. This is because the towering defender oozes confidence and is one of the main reasons for Chippa’s results this season.
The lanky Senegalese striker was linked with the club during July last year; however, he opted to put pen to paper with Mamelodi Sundowns instead. Niang has found life at Chloorkop tough, and his name has once again been linked to the club. Pirates’ hopes of adding him to their books are still alive.
The Mpumalanga Black Aces striker has been headhunted by Pirates over several transfer windows now, but he is yet to make the move. With Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns also reportedly interested in him, the status of him having not signing for the Bucs could remain the same.
It seems surreal that a Kaizer Chiefs legend could be linked with Pirates, but that was the case in the January transfer window when he delayed putting pen to paper on a contract extension at Chiefs. During that transfer window, Pirates, who were competing with Sundowns for his signature, failed to swoop for his services. With Khune set to become a free agent in January – should he not sign with Chiefs – he will have a long list of clubs after his services.
