Kaizer Chiefs are a very transfer market savvy team in that they know how to buy big, all while making their books balance. Some of their most crucial buys have come from Europe… Here are the players they have signed from the popular footballing continent.
Phakamani Mngadi (AS Eupen – Belgium)
Having joined Chiefs at the start of the 2014/15 season from Belgian club AS Eupen, Mngadi was the club’s most recent signing from Europe.
Ovidy Karuru (OH Leuven – Belgium)
Kaizer Chiefs was the first South African club the Zimbabwean midfielder played for after the Soweto giants lured him from Belgian club, OH Leuven in January 2014.
Knowledge Musona (Hoffenheim – Germany)
Having left Chiefs for the Bundesliga in 2011, the Smiling Assassin was signed on loan from Hoffenheim for the 2013/14 season. Despite the club being eager to make his deal permanent, he opted for a return to Europe.
Reyaad Pieterse (Shamrock Rovers – Ireland)
Chiefs swooped for the goalkeeper after having tested his luck in Ireland with Shamrock Rovers. After just one appearance for the club, he made the switch back to South Africa in 2013, where he has gone on to win three cups.
Bernard Parker (FC Twente – Holland)
The Mamelodi Sundowns youth product made his debut on European soil when he turned out for Red Star Belgrade in 2009. He then moved on to Holland’s FC Twente, where he struggled to make an impact. Chiefs were the club to reinstall the faith in him 2011. They haven’t looked back since…
Emile Baron (Lillestrom - Norway)
Baron returned to Mzansi back in 2005 and went straight to Naturena. After having spent six years playing for Norway’s Lillestrom, the shot-stopper opted to join Chiefs before moving to SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits.
