Despite what Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane said after the game, Orlando Pirates deserved their 3-0 win over his team.
“We would never have won this game. The dice was loaded against us. My team played very well, they are a good team, but we rushed it in the final third. We dissected them and created so many chances, but that is football for you.”
This is what Mosimane said when his team was humiliated by the mighty Buccaneers at Loftus Stadium last night.
“We would never have won this game. The dice was loaded against us.” This implies that someone did Pirates favour last night, but this far from the truth.
The truth is that, our coach VV had a better game plan than Mosimane. His plan was to let Sundowns have the ball possession (Sundowns had 62% possession to Pirates’ 38%), but hurt them on counter attack and that worked from him.
Kermit Erasmus pace was too much for the slow Sundowns defenders, Thabo Nthethe in particular.
The less said about Sundowns goalkeeper, Kennedy Mweene, the better. For an international goalkeeper, his positioning was very poor and Erasmus capitalised on that.
Sundowns had eight corner kicks to Pirates’ two in the game, but they didn’t utilise any of these set pieces.
Sundowns also had more shots at goals than Pirates (15 to Bucs’ five).
Instead of moaning, Mosimane should be focussing on sorting out these problems, because in the end the mighty Bucs deserved their win on Wednesday night!
