Past, Present & Future Nike Stars Launch New Boot
Nike drew on the experiences of past, present and future footballers as they launched the new Hypervenom Phantom III in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
Kaizer Chiefs' Bernard Parker, as well as Thabo Mnyamane of SuperSport United and Bafana Bafana legend Shaun Bartlett, were all on hand to have their say about Nike’s latest football offering, talking to some possible stars of tomorrow at Rashid Cassim Sports in Gauteng.
The football stars discussed the Hypervenom's several new technologies such as the new hyper flexible soleplate, new-look studs and Flyknit upper.
Mzansi's launch of the boot comes shortly after the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Harry Kane and Edinson Cavani unveiled it in Germany last month, with Parker and Mnyamane now looking to replicate their superstar counterparts.
The players and coach fielded questions from several budding young footballers on Wednesday evening after the kids got the chance to try out the new boot in the in-store trial area.
Here’s what the two players had to say:
Bernard Parker: "They've got a great feel, and they're very comfortable. A lot of players complain about the stud pressure they have on their boots, but trust me, I've never had stud pressure in these babies. Now, with the new ones, I'm so excited and I can't wait for practice. Hopefully we'll see more goals coming in them.
"This boot is very light, much lighter than the ones before. As strikers, we're known for our quick reactions and being able to beat defenders. I think this will give me that edge."
Thabo Mnyamane: "From when I started using Hypervenoms in 2014, the advancements really change every time. Every time it changes, you feel different, and with this one I can feel that it's a bit lighter. If it's lighter, it means I'll be quick and when I jump it means I'll have more spring. I can run faster and jump higher. The studs are also different, they'll help with balance.
"I'm on five goals this season, and in these boots I'm confident of getting into double figures. I saw the pictures of Jamie Vardy and Edinson Cavani, and was excited when I saw when they'd come to South Africa. It's a great feeling to be part of that team."
