The power of social media was once again evident when Mesut Ozil reached out to a young fan in Kenya. Have a look!
Football is a global language that transcends both borders and culture and when a Twitter user shared the story of Lawrence, a young cow herder from Nairobi Kenya, the footballing world reacted swiftly.
The young boy told APO Rugby writer, Eric Njiru about his love for a certain Mesut Ozil. He even had a self-made shirt of the Arsenal star.
The writer then took to his 7000 follower-strong Twitter account to share the heartfelt story hoping that by some miracle it might reach Ozil. The post quickly gained traction and had over 13 000 likes and 9000 retweets.
And reach Ozil it did! The Arsenal Number 10 was so touched by the gesture that he reached out to the kid via Njiru.
Ozil gifted both Lawrence and his brother with his Arsenal home shirt and that’s not all. He also provided them with special Adidas boots. Ozil shared the images of the jubilant boys on his Twitter account.
It’s always heartwarming to see the power that football has to unite the most unlikely people with some assistance from social media.
