With the 2015/16 season having recently come to a close, we discuss five South African stars abroad who could be moving clubs.
May Mahlangu – Sint-Truiden
The player's contract at his Belgian club runs out in this transfer window, and it is looking likely that Mahlangu could be moving on from Sint-Truiden. Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns are said to be interested in Mahlangu's signature, although he may want to stay in Europe.
Steven Pienaar – Everton
Pienaar, who turned 34 years old in March, has endured a tough two years at Everton due to long-term injuries, and with his contract expiring next month, it doesn't seem likely that the English club will hold on to the former Bafana Bafana captain.
Darren Keet – KV Kortrijk
The goalkeeper, who has been a consistent performer for his side in recent campaigns, could be on the move in the window as his contract also runs down. It was reported a while ago that Keet could be looking to leave Kortrijk, with it being reported that he could be interested in a move to the MLS.
Kamohelo Mokotjo – FC Twente
Relegation, albeit due to financial issues, was the result of a terrible season for Twente in the Dutch Eredivisie this campaign, which could prompt Mokotjo to search for a new club. He was one of his side's better players in 2015/16, and is, without a doubt, deserving of top-flight football.
Thulani Serero – Ajax Amsterdam
The former Ajax Cape Town star featured just 14 times in the league this season, and only played 43 minutes of football in three Europa League matches. Serero's contract only runs out at the end of next season, but he could seek a move for more first team football.
Should any of these stars return to SA?
