Following Bloemfontein Celtic’s 5-0 demolition of champions Mamelodi Sundowns last night in the Absa Premiership, we as Kaizer Chiefs fans can without a doubt feel that we have one hand on the league trophy.
Yes, with the club dominating for most of the season, the league trophy is now ours to lose. Three points at Polokwane City in the next league fixture will ensure us the title, and all our hard work this season will be rewarded.
The main reason I feel we are in this position is because of our unbeaten run in the first-half of the season, and the accumulation of points meant that we had some leverage to drop points in the second-half of the season.
We came under much ridicule from opposition fans in the second stanza of the Premier Soccer League season, when we seemingly took our foot off the gas for a short while. Prior to our back-to -back wins in the league in the last two fixtures, we faced a rocky spell whereby we had lost four out of five fixtures in all competitions.
Since then, our experience showed and I also believe that it was the players were determined not to repeat last season’s title run-in, where we fell off the radar at crucial times.
Now we can be confidently be labelled as champions elect, with the title being one victory away. Also, clinching the league title will be the cherry on top for most of the team’s players, who have been at the peak of their powers this season.
Players like Eric Mathoho, Tsepo Masilela, Mandla Masango and Reneilwe Letsholonyane had arguably the best seasons of their careers, and how awful would it have been if they had nothing to show for.
With no umbrella being held for Downs right now, are you excited for Chiefs' title decider in the next fixture?
