Most Memorable Player/Fan Interactions

We’ve seen some shocking player/fan interactions over the years, like Eric Cantona’s kick for example, but we’ve also seen some great moments that have perhaps given us goose bumps. Selecao takes a look at some of the most memorable moments with fans and players.

In 2014, in a friendly between Brazil and Bafana, a child ran on to the field to meet his idols and Neymar, being the kind-hearted superstar that he is, lifted the kid in the air, showing his latest fan off to his teammates. In one of the greatest player gestures we’ve seen, the Brazil team lifted the kid and started throwing him up in celebration – an absolutely legendary moment!

Eric Cantona

One of the most talked about moments in football was when Manchester United’s Frenchman leaped in to the crowd and kicked an opposition fan member. In Cantona’s book, he said that the fan said a few nasty words regarding the footballer’s family. Although that was the case, the reaction was highly condemned and the number seven received a lengthy ban for his actions.

Cristiano Ronaldo

When playing against Getafe in 2011, the Real Madrid superstar cleared the ball in the first half, and it struck a fan in the face, resulting in a broken nose for the gentleman covered in blood. After the game, Ronaldo sympathised with the supporter, giving him his match shirt. I’d take a broken nose for that!

Rio Ferdinand

In 2007, the former Manchester United defender was frustrated at failing to take advantage of a good attacking move against Blackburn Rovers. He reacted by blasting the ball in to the stands. His action backfired, as it hit an elderly lady in the face. Rio was twice seen apologising during the course of the game, and after the game, the central defender met with the lady to give her his match shirt.

Lionel Messi

In an Argentina training session last year June, a fan ran on the field towards the Barcelona superstar to greet him, and perhaps fool him too! The supporter looked just like Messi’s former teammate, Ronaldinho, and even King Leo saw the funny side of his incident. The fan was later carried off the field, but Messi and co shared a laugh.
