This week sees the return of the Copa Del Rey, and the Fan Park Crew thought it would be good to bring you a few memorable Copa Del Rey moments.
Real Madrid 2-1 Barcelona – 2014 Final
Gareth Bale’s late winner against Barcelona will be remembered for a very long time. He managed to knock the ball past Marc Bartra and sprinted 20 yards down the touchline to regain the ball. Once Bale had the ball under control he coolly slotted the ball under Jose Pinto to win the game.
Atletico Madrid 2-1 Real Madrid – 2013 Final
Beating Real in 2013 was a bit of history for the Atletico, as the last time they did that was back in 1999. The winner came in injury-time thanks to Brazilian defender Miranda, who popped up in the 99th minute of the game.
Getafe 4-0 Barcelona (Agg 6-5) - 2007 Semi-Final second-leg
Barcelona won the first leg 5-2 at the Camp Nou three weeks prior to the match, and it seemed certain that they would progress to the final, but that never happened. Frank Rijkaard was the manager at the time and decided to rest Lionel Messi but fielded the likes Samuel Eto’o, Ronaldinho, Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Carles Puyol for the return leg - but even they were unable to prevent their exit after going down 4-0.
Deportivo La Coruna 2-1 Real Madrid – 2002 Final
Deportivo were a different side a few years back, as they won only La Liga title in 2000 and then beat Real Madrid in their own backyard in the Copa del Rey in 2002. Real Madrid boasted the likes of Roberto Carlos, Luis Figo, Raul and Zinedine Zidane at the time, but Deportivo were not afraid of the big names.
