Thabo Matlaba reflects on his season in this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma and mentioned that he did not have the best of campaigns this time around, as he wished he had gotten on the score sheet more often.
Festival is known to be one of the best attacking full-backs in the country but, due to injury, he struggled to regain his best form.
When asked about the season on a personal note, he said, “To be honest with you, I haven’t had the best of seasons. I should have maybe scored at least three goals by now and helped the team more in attack. I could not do that because of some challenges … I was out for a long time and had to adjust when I came back, you understand.
“I hope for next season we will prepare well. We need to forget about everything that’s happened and look forward,” he added.
Matlaba also gave us insights as to why he had not been scoring the long-range stunners that we as fans were accustomed to seeing.
“When I got injured, I couldn’t train the way I normally do because I had to recover and regain my fitness. I hope next season I’ll follow the programme and be fit again. It’s all about fitness for me. It’s not about wanting to shoot or anything.
“When I scored those goals from distance, I was very fit and was able to do whatever I wanted to do out in the field,” Matlaba concluded.
Do you think Festival is being hard on himself?
