There was jubilation in the football circles, as Mzansi’s greatest-ever goalscorer, Benni McCarthy welcomed his son into the world.
McCarthy used to be a lethal striker back in the day, banging in goals left, right and centre. There hasn’t been anyone in the country who could replicate the 42-year-old’s feats.
The good news is that there could be a predecessor, as McCarthy’s 5th child, Lio Romero McCarthy was born on Tuesday.
It is the Cape Town City coach’s first son and he was excited as he shared the news on his Instagram account.
“Welcome to the world my son. Introducing Lio Romero McCarthy, ” McCarthy captioned the photo of his son, wrapped in a Gucci blanket.
The news was welcomed by all as a host of players including Teko Modise and Hlompho Kekana flooded his account with congratulatory messages.
It remains to be seen whether McCarthy will be back in time for the Cape Derby as City are set to take on Stellenbosch at Athlone stadium on Saturday evening.
Do you think McCarthy can win the league with City?
