This season has been a campaign to forget for Orlando Pirates and their goalkeepers in particular, but one man who has been positive in goal is Happy Jele. Can you believe he is the only stopper not to concede this season?
The Bucs defender made the bold move of pulling on the gloves for Pirates after Jackson Mabokgwane was sent off against Bidvest Wits in the 77th minute on Wednesday night.
Jele made some crucial saves to deny Gavin Hunt's side from extending their lead, and his performance earned praise from Bafana Bafana's no. 1 stopper Itumeleng Khune.
His 13 minutes in goal saw "Magents" keep a clean sheet, and he became the only Pirates stopper to have played in goal this season and not let a ball go past him.
Mabokgwane hasn't enjoyed the greatest run in goal of late – in his past two games he let eight strikes in – and has conceded a total of 11 in just seven Absa Premiership matches.
Similarly, Brighton Mhlongo hasn't done much better, and in his nine league games he has seen 13 strikes sail past him, while Felipe Ovono conceded four in six outings.
Siyabonga Mpontshane is yet to turn out for Pirates' first team this season, and it seems he could be competing against Happy Jele for a spot in goals in the next fixture as Mabokgwane is suspended and Brighton is injured.
Do you think Jele should start in goal against Cape Town City this weekend?
