Football World Reacts To Pirlo's Retirement
Default

On Sunday, Andrea Pirlo played the last game of his illustrious career as a professional footballer, and his former teammates and colleagues have since reacted to his retirement. Did you see what they had to say about him?

The Italian legend, who famously won the 2006 World Cup with Italy in Germany, featured for New York City FC against Columbus Crew in what was the last game of his career on the weekend, and after the fixture, he took to his social media pages to bid football farewell.

Check it out!

Pirlo, who joins the likes of Philipp Lahm, Francesco Totti, Xabi Alonso, and Kaka to have retired this year, has played with and against some of the greatest names in football, while he has also won everything there was to win in his path.

Since confirming that he would be hanging up his boots, the gracious footballer was on the receiving end of many messages from players who he famously shared the field with, and each post carries an element of emotion to them.

Check them out!

Paolo Maldini's Instagram post translates to: "Thank you Andrea for being yourself – a great champion and a faithful colleague. Your class will be missed in the football world, and it was an honour and a great pleasure to share plenty of triumphs and bitterness with you."

Gianluigi Buffon's tweet translates to: "Those who played with Andrea understood the meaning of 'unique'. He was a champion who alternated class, elegance and humility."

Francesco Totti's tweet translates to: "It was an honour to play with you and against you. A champion with immense class. A hug and good luck for the future."

With so many stars retiring this year, who do you think will be next?

You were slow like Zidane ,but very dangerous with long range shots. I think you can make it as a coach.
