Good morning Khosi fans! As the Soweto derby continues to dominate talk, many have questioned the form of Bernard Parker. Is he slowing down?
The striker was expected to enjoy a successful season after finishing as the league’s leading goal scorer last term, but he has somehow failed to live up to the hype.
Many have placed blame on his long injury lay-off, in as he required surgery during the off-season on his ankle, but that argument is not completely convincing.
Parker admitted at the end of the 2013/14 season that he had played the whole campaign in pain with his ankle injury. However, he still managed to finish as the leading scorer with 10 goals to his name, but this season he has failed to find the back of the net regularly.
Is his ankle really to blame this time?
With only three league goals to his name during this season, Parker was again anonymous during the Soweto derby.
Only eight league games remain for Chiefs and for the ‘Hond’ to equal or better last season’s record, and essentially he would have to score a goal in every single league fixture from here on out.
Sadly, that doesn’t seem probable given his form this season…
Kingston Nkhatha was slayed for his misses, but the stats show that he was not the only underperforming striker at Chiefs this season.
Khosi fans, do you think Parker is slowing down?
