In a time of change and progress, the Bafana Bafana national team has been surrounded by optimism going forward. We have had a tournament to forget at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, but there is no doubt that leading up to the showpiece, the signs were there that Bafana are definitely on the up
Having said that, are we breeding a new group of young Bafana superstars?
Locally, names like Sibusiso Vilakazi, Mandla Masango and Eric Mathoho have been setting the Premier Soccer League alight with their impressive performances as of late and, in the process, the trio have caught the eye of overseas based clubs who have been monitoring their progress.
Also, we have talent in abundance when it comes to players who have been plying their trade abroad. Amongst others, stars like Kamohelo Mokotjo, May Mahlangu, Ayanda Patosi and Andile Jali have been star performers for their clubs. It has been a long time since South Africa had this many players playing abroad and they could even form the core of this new look Bafana squad.
What about our future stars? Reigning Absa Premiership Young Player of the Year Keagan Dolly is said to be one of the brightest young talents in the country alongside names such as Rivaldo Coetzee, Bongani Zungu and Themba Zwane.
These are all young but top quality players and if they are really looked after, another dream team could be on the horizon.
