We’ve seen some quick players grace the footballing stage over the years, but the stars of today seem miles ahead of the past greats in terms of sheer pace. The Fan Park has done extensive research, and today we bring you five stars and the pace at which they run with the ball in Km/h.
It goes to show how important pace is in today’s game, as these speedsters are amongst the best players in the world.
So who dribbles faster: Wayne Rooney, Frank Ribery, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi or Gareth Bale?
Here are their speeds, according to AS:
The fastest player running with the ball at his feet in football today is Real Madrid’s Welsh winger, Gareth Bale, who runs at 36.9 km/h. This was displayed when he out-sprinted Marc Bartra in El Clasico last season, after the defender seemed the clear favourite to get to the ball first.
Although we don’t see him bombing down the wing as often as we used to, Cristiano Ronaldo is the second fastest dribbler, running at 33.6 km/ with the ball at his feet.
Lionel Messi is surprisingly the third quickest between the five players, as he runs at 32.5 km/h while sliding his way through any defensive line he comes up against.
Out of all the attributes that Wayne Rooney possesses, his pace on the ball wouldn’t be one of the highlights, but the English international runs at 31.2 km/h - not far short of the Argentine superstar.
Frank Ribery is the slowest of the lot, but 30.7 km/h is still quick when keeping a ball under control. Perhaps Ribery was faster a few years back, but he remains one of the deadliest dribblers around.
Where you surprised by the speeds at which these stars run?
