Before making a name for himself at Kaizer Chiefs, Hendrick Ekstein was playing his football for fun at the Kloof Gold mine. The midfielder has now received boots to commemorate his humble beginnings. Check it out.
It was a classic 'from rags to riches' story for the 28-year-old Ekstein. Before the flashing lights of the PSL came calling, he was a mineworker.
Much has since happened in the midfielder’s life, as he has gone on to gain prominence with the Amakhosi, cementing his status as a crowd favourite with his ‘Kasi flavor.’
His dream was cut short when Chiefs decided to terminate his contract towards the end of this season.
Ekstein took to Twitter to reveal his new personalized boots.
His surname as well as the name of the mine which he worked for, adorn the side of the blue and gold boots. His favourite quote also makes an appearance; 'Play to be remembered'.
It is not the first pair the skillful midfielder has received from Nike this season.
Which team do you think Ekstein should sign for?
