It must have felt like a ton of bricks being taken off the shoulders of George Lebese in Kaizer Chiefs' 3-0 thumping of Moroka Swallows in the Absa Premiership last night, as he rounded off his performance with what was a classy lob over the Dube Birds' goalkeeper.
He desperately needed a shot of confidence on the pitch, as his current legal issues have seen the player in and out of the starting XI, and last night’s performance would have come as a relief to the player who is looking to keep his career on track.
There may be little place for sentiment in football but Lebese should have been given the Man of the Match award in last night’s game. Yes, Barnard Parker may have been the MVP of the match, but Lebese was lively throughout and netted a crucial goal to ease the pressure.
Lebese was dangerous on the break during counter attacks, he was taking on the Swallows right-back relentlessly towards the end of the game and even showed a few shades of Kasi flavour after his goal.
It’s only a matter of time before the real George Lebese gets back to his best. Do you feel his goal against Swallows will do the trick in terms of getting his confidence back?
