We see them plying their trade out on the football field, knowing it’s what they were born to do - but their off-field interests caught the Fan Park Crew off guard. Today, we look at some footballers and their private businesses and hobbies.
Steven Gerrard – Restaurant Owner
The millionaire footballer owns a restaurant in Liverpool called the Warehouse – which he bought in 2010 after falling in love with the food. Gerrard bought it from a friend with whom he has done a great deal of charity work.
David Beckham – Fashion And Fragrance
We all knew that he was Manchester United’s pretty boy before departing from the club in 2006, and to be fair, his wife is Posh Spice, but perhaps we didn’t see Beckham make a living doing fashion. Although we know his right foot is what brought him the fame, his name has become a brand that’s debatably bigger than his footballing career.
Rio Ferdinand and Ashley Cole – Film Producers
We didn’t see this one coming! Seriously, this isn’t a joke. The two Londoners and former England colleagues teamed up in 2009 to produce a movie called ‘Dead Man Running’ which starred American rapper 50 Cent!
David Ginola – Winemaker
It seems fitting doesn’t it? Although, perhaps he didn’t get better with age. The former Tottenham Hotspur and French footballer retired in 2002 and went in to winemaking. In 2008, the left-footer was awarded a silver medal at the International Wine Challenge for a rosé that was produced in his vineyards.
Djibril Cisse – DJ
The former Liverpool and France pace-man is a part time DJ! Well, with his hairstyles and impressive car collection, we knew that Cisse enjoyed a bit of a party. In 2006 he actually released an album titled ‘The DJ Inside ME’ which featured 15 tracks.
