We are all aware that footballers aren’t saints, and there have been many incidents where we question their sanity, but there are no excuses for these illegal acts!
The Fan Park crew takes a look at three incidents that caused the police to come knocking.
Johnson Attempts To Steal A Toilet Seat
When Glen Johnson was on-loan from Chelsea at Portsmouth, the full-back was reportedly caught attempting to steal a toilet seat at a store in England. However, he went about it differently to other thieves. Johnson put his desired toilet seat in a box with a cheaper price-tag! He was caught in the act, and was forced to pay a £80 fine.
Bradley Wright-Phillips & Nathan Dyer Stealing In A Nightclub
When the pair of brothers played at Southampton, both of them were reportedly caught stealing money, cigarettes and even phones! Nathan Dyer later pled guilty to the charge of theft, and served 60 hours of community service, although CCTV footage never captured either brother stealing red-handed.
Maradona Fires Shots At Journalists
Diego Maradona was well-known for his off-field antics, despite his tremendous talent, and this incident with the press was one of the more memorable moments of his career – for the wrong reason of course! The Argentine was sentenced to two years in prison foe firing shots at journalists with his air rifle, who were reportedly camping outside his house. Despite his sentence, he never served time.
