Today, the Fan Park Crew takes a look at a few players that could have been signed by Manchester United. Who knows that the club could have achieved if they had these players in their squad a few years ago!
The Czech Republic goalkeeper was almost snapped up by former Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson, as he was looking for a replacement for Peter Schmeichel. The Scotsman didn’t go through with the deal though and ended up losing Cech to Chelsea.
The Newcastle United legend played for Blackburn Rovers in the early 90’s and was chased by Manchester United after helping Rovers lift the Premier League title. The Premier League’s record goal scorer was not keen on joining the Red Devils, and opted for his boyhood club instead.
At only 16-years-old, Fernando Torres was already on the Sir Alex Ferguson’s radar, while playing at Atletico Madrid. The Spaniard joined arch rivals Liverpool in 2007 after Ferguson didn’t push for him hard enough, but to this day the Scotsman’s still believes he created all the hype around him.
The Red Devils had one eye on Gareth Bale when he was still part of the Southampton Youth Academy, but it’s said that when United called to make an enquiry for Bale, the Saints decided not to return their calls. The Welsh winger ended up going to Tottenham Hotspur and then Real Madrid.
The Brazilian maestro played for many big clubs in the world, and he could have Manchester United on his impressive CV. In the 2000s, Ronaldinho was looking to leave Paris Saint-Germain and the Red Devils were one of his main options, but the Old Trafford club failed to snap him up before Barcelona came knocking.
