This evening, the Fan Park Crew takes a look at five players Chelsea managed to destroy after signing them. Some of these players were massive superstars around the world, but once they donned the blue jersey things went pear-shaped.
The Ukrainian striker arrived from AC Milan for £30m, but never lived up to that price tag at Chelsea. Being a former Ballon d’Or winner, you would have expected him to light up the Premier League. Instead, Shevchenko spent three years at Chelsea, only managing 48 appearances and scoring nine goals for the club.
At the time of signing for Chelsea, Victor Moses was arguably one of Africa’s most exciting players in the Premier League. He was Wigan's star, but couldn’t break into the Chelsea first team regularly. Moses was then sent out on loan to Liverpool to try regain some form, but it sadly didn’t work out for him. He is currently still a Chelsea player, but has been sent out on loan to Stoke City.
Juan Sebastián Verón
Veron didn’t have a successful time at Manchester United, which allowed the highly ranked Argentine to move to London. His time at Stamford Bridge started off well with 2-1 win over Liverpool, but sadly after that, he would only go onto represent the club another 14 times before being loaned out twice and eventually being sold.
Mutu joined Chelsea back in 2003 and it was Jose Mourinho that brought him to Stamford Bridge. The Romanian started off his Chelsea career with a bang, scoring four goals in three games - but that’s about where it all ended for him. He had tough relationship with Jose Mourinho, who frequently accused him of lying when injured.
Fernando Torres is notably the most recent player that has been destroyed by Chelsea. The striker is just one of the many strikers that seemed perfect to play the Chelsea way, but sadly his career took a turn for the worst. He moved from Liverpool for £50m in 2011 and made over 100 appearances for the London Club, but he was only able to score 20 goals in his four years with them.
Can you name any other players Chelsea have ruined?
