What’s the story?

It’s been three days since Phunya Sele Sele have been sold to Royal AM, bringing the club’s long history to an end. Celtic’s owner Max Tshabalala walked away with a reported R50 million from the deal and since then the Bloemfontein people have been in mourning.

In response to the sale, many former Celtic players posted their emotional tributes on social media mourning the “death” of the historic club. The Siwelele supporters built a big reputation for the atmosphere they used to create and now the DSTV premiership will start the 2021/22 campaign without a team in Bloemfontein.

Lyle Lakay posts

The Masandawana defender posted a video on social media, showing a video of him singing with the crowd. The caption read, “You have to feel for the Siwelele supporters, Celtic meant everything to them. Bloem will never be the same.”

The 30-year-old made his name at his former side before moving to Cape Town City. Lakay made 109 appearances in his five years at the club.

Mark Mayambela posts

The journeyman spent three years at Celtic before moving to Orlando Pirates and shared a picture of him in their kit. The caption read: All the memories just came flooding never anticipated this kind of an end for my beloved team, business?? Arggg!!”

He later shared a video on Twitter with the Siwelele supporters singing a song. His caption showed how upset the midfielder was, with the 33-year-old just using a heartbreak emoji.
