It was reported in the latest edition of Soccer Laduma that French giants Lille are keeping tabs on our red hot striker Cuthbert Malajila, after being recommended to the Ligue 1 side. Losing a player like Malajila would be disappointing and should it happen, we would have to do everything in our power to replace him.
Malajila has scored an impressive 10 goals in the Absa Premiership this season and has helped a lot of his teammates by racking up assists in the attacking build up.
We also need to ask ourselves if there is even a need to go in the market to replace Malajila. Well, for one, the rest of our strikers are not scoring enough goals. Katlego Mashego hardly gets a run in the team, while Rodney Ramagalela is suffering the same fate.
Mame Niang is a player who does not fit into Sundowns' playing system, and is only seen as a back-up player to add a different dimension to the team. Will we change our whole system to accommodate Niang’s aerial qualities, taking into consideration the carpet football we play? I doubt that will happen.
There is a shortage of goal scorers in the country, but I feel that with no serious interest placed on players like Puleng Tlolane and Moeketsi Sekola, we could be front runners for their signatures.
Both these players have been in fine goal scoring form for Polokwane City and Free State Stars respectively, and will be hot property come the end of the season.
With that said, who should Downs look at if Malajila leaves for a move abroad?
