It’s no secret that Mamelodi Sundowns have a big squad, and many players at the club either face time on the bench or no time on the playing field at all. However there are valid reasons as to why some players constantly battle to make it into the team.
Today we will look at a few Downs players who are just too indispensable to the club for them not to be playing.
The Navigator is producing some of the best football of his career and now looks like a bona fide Downs star. Playing in that number 10 role, he makes it hard for players like Themba Zwane and Bongani Zungu to thrive in the position.
Billiat is one of most important players at the club and when he is on song, Downs are on song. As a first team regular, anyone else looking to occupy his position will have to be very special.
He may be leaving the club at the end of the season but there is no doubt Schut has been the club’s best defender for the last couple of years. Not only will his presence be missed, but replacing his quality will be the club’s toughest task.
Malajila is the only free scoring striker at the club, as he leads the goal-scoring charts in the Absa Premiership with 10 goals. Fellow strikers Mame Niang, Katlego Mashego and Rodney Ramagalela have failed to meet the standards set by Malajila, and it is likely to continue in this fashion for the remainder of the season.
What other players do you feel are making life hard for fringe players at the club?
