We as Mamelodi Sundowns supporters have every reason to feel that we could have the upper hand in the league title race. Without even thinking about leaders Kaizer Chiefs, who don’t look all too convincing right now, we can take solace in our own form in that we can withstand almost any pressure right now.
We did it last season and we can do it again. We tend to kick into full gear in the second half of the season and that has been the case this time around.
What may add to our chances in the league is that we don’t have any other cup competitions to compete in, and have a huge squad to choose from as well. I mention the squad because we look much fresher than Chiefs at the moment, whose squad looks rather thin in terms of quality in depth.
On the flip side, Chiefs may do all in their power to win the league title and not repeat last season’s title slip. At the same time though, we know what is needed at this stage of the season as we have been here before.
Another reason why we may feel we have the upper hand in the title race is that we are scoring goals and Chiefs aren’t. All we have to look at is both striking departments. Chiefs have a mini crisis on their hands as all of their number nines, or 10’s if you like, are firing blanks.
Cuthbert Malajila, our number one striker, is the top goal scorer in the league with 10 goals to his name. Also, playmaker Khama Billiat has scored seven goals in the Absa Premiership this season, which is more than any Chiefs striker has managed in the league.
Everything suggests that we have the upper hand going into the final rounds of the league season.
Do you agree?
