It was reported before the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea that the tournament would be used by French scouts to monitor Kaizer Chiefs' mercurial winger Mandla Masango.
However, has he done enough in the tournament to impress the scouts so as to seal a deal for an overseas move?
Masango’s goal against Ghana last night in Bafana’s 2-1 loss in their last group game could be the scouting team’s only real evidence of the player’s ability. Back here in South Africa, we know Bullet is a talented and skillful outlet for his club side, however, we can only but hope one full game will impress the scouts following his start against the Black Stars.
Also, when he was utilised as an impact player off the bench in the tournament, mostly when our backs were against the wall, Masango did not really stand out.
The Siya Crew reported that a representative of French Ligue 2 club, Le Havre AC, was in the stands keeping a watchful eye over the Chiefs star. With Masango entering the last six months of his current deal at Amakhosi, it remains to be seen if his showings against Ghana would be enough to either secure a deal before the transfer window closes or on a pre-contract deal.
This could well have been Masango’s best chance at a crack for an overseas deal and the player himself would no doubt have wished he received more game time to impress whoever was in the stands from a European club.
Was Masango’s performance and wonder strike against Ghana enough to secure a deal abroad?
