Benni McCarthy, who is currently studying for his UEFA coaching license, will one day be a coach - but will he be like his former mentor Jose Mourinho?
The former Orlando Pirates striker is currently living in England where he is finishing off his studies, and he has often claimed that he would like to coach the club where he finished off his career, Orlando Pirates.
McCarthy also recently revealed that he would like to implement the man-management style Mourinho implements in his tutoring, and mix that with his own coaching philosophy.
The Portuguese tactician worked alongside Benni for a season, where they went on to win the UEFA Champions League and formed a close relationship.
Mourinho once described his coaching style as something that has to be tailored for each player…
“To manage a player is like to make a suit by measure, because all of them are different I cannot go to a shop and buy some 38, some 40, some 42, some 44 and arrive in the dressing room. No. It has to be by measure, it has to be perfect,” Mourinho told Sports Illustrated.
“So the personal relationship with the players is something very, very important. Obviously there is also the collective leadership and I have to try and adapt my collective leadership to the profile of group I have.
“But I think the suit by measure is the perfect way to explain what I think is fundamental – every man is a man, I read them and the better I can interact with them the better the team can be.”
This is an interesting philosophy from Mourinho, and one that clearly works for him as he has won so much in his career.
Do you think Benni McCarthy will be able to man-manage each player uniquely and become the next Jose Mourinho?
