We find ourselves in a rather sticky situation with regards to Tefu Mashamaite and Eric Mathoho’s contract talks. It has become a frustration amongst the supporters recently as we need to know where we stand with our best players.
Nonetheless, there is still the possibility of losing two, if not three of our best defenders at the club. How will this be addressed?
Mashamaite has not yet put pen to paper for Chiefs and it was reported in last week’s edition of Soccer Laduma that a move abroad could be stalling Masha’s contract talks in extending his deal at the club.
Mathoho’s situation has been widely publicised, as we know that he is being courted by overseas clubs and stands an even bigger chance of facing the exit door at Naturena.
Let’s not forget that next season, fellow central defender Morgan Gould’s contract will be coming to an end. He is not a first team regular at the moment but is still an important back-up player to the ‘Twin Towers’.
With Gould, there is the possibility of his contract also being run down but before that happens, big clubs in South Africa could monitor that situation sooner rather than later. Chiefs could even look to cash in on the player while he still has a bigger value.
So then, we face this rather strange situation where all three of our main central defenders could leave the club.
If you were Bobby Motaung, who would you keep and who would you sell?
