Yes, we may be at the top of the league table, but it doesn't mean we can take things easy going into the final lap of Premier Soccer League season. In a team filled with A-list stars in the local game, one would expect that there be no room for error.
When losing out to Mamelodi Sundowns in the race for the league title last season, we only had ourselves to blame as we were once in a very comfortable position to take home the trophy.
Yes, Downs may have gone on an impressive unbeaten streak when claiming their sixth PSL league title last season, but I do feel that it was a case of us losing out on the trophy as opposed to Downs blasting everyone away and winning it.
We are expected to win titles but we can only do this if the leaders in the team pitch up. Last season’s mishaps alone should be enough motivation for our leaders to go out and cancel all of the previous campaigns mistakes.
That should not be the only inspiration for us, the experience of players who have won the league title before should filter right through the squad in the comings weeks.
We are at a stage in the season where points on the board are way more important than pretty football, and the only way we can achieve this is if the men who have done it before… do their best to do it again!
