PSL players and footballers in general are known for their flashy lifestyles and their love for the finer things in life. Things such as the latest threads, finest cuisine, and the fastest cars. One car in particular seems to have PSL player written all over it.
German carmaker Volkswagen’s GTI range has for years been known as a favourite for many South Africans in general and even more so in the local football fraternity.
Not only is the car easy on the eye, it is also monstrous on the road. Because of its Turbo Engine and the sound it produces when shifting through gears it was famously dubbed the ‘Vrrrphaaahhh’. The polo GTI range will set you back a good R375 900 while the Golf GTI goes for a sum of R558 000, not bad if you’re earning a footballers salary.
Bidvest Wits defender and Bafana captain Thulani Hlatswayo is one such player, The man nicknamed Tyson is endorsed by VW and roams around in an impressive Golf 7 GTI with his own personal branding adorning the side of the car.

Orlando Pirates Midfielder Xola Mlambo as well as Supersport United Midfielder Phumlani Ntshangase simmer it down with the more modest Polo 6 GTI. Former Stars of Africa Duo Surprise Ralani and Tokelo Rantie opted for the beast that is the Golf 7 GTI. They are joined in this club by Mamelodi Sundowns midfield ace, Themba Zwane who can be seen driving around in a Golf 7 GTI as well.
One thing is for certain. The famous GTI and PSL players belong in the same WhatsApp group and it seems that it’s a partnership that will continue for years to come.
