Hello fellow Buccaneers! The long wait to see Tshepo Gumede slotted into Orlando Pirates backline will now be over when the Bucs turn out against his former club, Platinum Stars.
The center-back saw his debut for the Sea Robbers delayed by one fixture after he was forced to miss out on the midweek game against AmaZulu last Wednesday.
Gumede was brought to the club to add stability to a highly leaky backline and the fans are anxious to see how he performs when finally introduced into the team.
What makes this debut even more special is that he will come up against the club that launched his career, and he will certainly be out to do his best.
Standing at 5ft10, the 23-year-old adds some towering height to the backline as well as agility and preciseness when it comes to making sliding tackles.
Out of the teams in the top four of the Absa Premiership log, Pirates have conceded the most (17) and are in a desperate need to tidy things up at the back.
Their defending of set-pieces is one of their main areas of weakness and should they hope to climb even higher up the table, they will need to find a way to fill up gaps.
Ghosts, Gumede is undoubtedly a solid addition to the team and he should improve the Bucs backline adequately… Do you foresee a tighter defensive unit with his inclusion in the team?
