Orlando Pirates got their second half of the season off to flyer after beating AmaZulu 2-1 in the Absa Premiership last night. On a night where the headlines were grabbed by the attacking duo of Lehlohonolo Majoro and Kermit Erasmus, one can only but wonder what other players will reach their heights.
The Fan Park crew will take a look at some of the Bucs players who need to pull up their socks in the second half of the season.
Brighton Mhlongo & Siyabonga Mpontshane
With Bucs signing Siyabonga Mpontshane last month to add to their goalkeeping ranks, Mhlongo once again has to compete with another goalkeeper for the number one spot - following the tragic death of Senzo Meyiwa. Let’s hope the competition brings out the best in both of the shot stoppers.
The box-to-box midfield terrier has not had the best of campaigns with the Mayfair outfit this season following his misfortunes with injury. There is no doubting the pint-sized player’s talent, but if he wants to cement his place in the team, he will have to prove his worth.
Masuku is one of the most talented and skilful players in the Premier Soccer League, however, it seems that he is content with a place on the Bucs bench. Fans love him, this because of all the Kasi Flavour he has at his feet. But that is not enough if he really wants to become an important player for Pirates. Let’s hope the second half of the season provides a platform for Masuku to showcase his abilities as a complete player.
