Birthday Boy Ronaldo’s Career Defining Moments

Bursting on to the international scene for Manchester United as an 18-year-old, after being signed from Sporting Lisbon, it was clear for all to see the potential that young Cristiano Ronaldo possessed. Now 30-years-old, he is regarded as one of the best footballers in the world and the Fan Park crew has a look at some of the Portuguese superstar’s career highlights, as well as his accolades.

Lisbon to Manchester

Ronaldo was signed by Manchester United after he impressed Sir Alex Ferguson in a pre-season friendly for Sporting Lisbon. Although often frustrating Red Devils fans with his tendency to want to go past every player in his path, everybody saw the potential in the bright young talent.

2006 World Cup Drama

Ronaldo was pictured by photographers winking at teammates, after a robust challenge on an England player, who happened to be his Man United teammate, Wayne Rooney. It’s safe to say that the Portuguese player wasn’t the most popular footballer in England – where he plied his trade at the time!

Voted World’s Best In 2009

A teary CR7 became one of the newest elite members to win to the prestigious FIFA World Player of the Year award. Not only was he at his personal best, he was now recognised globally as the best.

Manchester to Madrid

At a club where he’d go on to hit new heights, Ronaldo signed for Los Blancos for a the world record transfer fee of £80 million. Upon arrival, the superstar was greeted by 80 000 fans – a sold out stadium.
