With El Clasico coming up on the weekend, the Fan Park Crew decided to take a look at a few of the best individual battles we’re likely to see in the much-anticipated clash.
These match-ups add to the overall drama of the game, and ensure that it remains as one of the most watched rivalries in world football.
Here are the battles within the battle:
Luis Enrique V Carlo Ancelotti
Of course, their players are the ones that will be doing the all the hard work on the field, but it’s Enrique and Ancelotti’s instructions and tactical ploys that may decide the fate of the fixture. The Spanish manager won’t want to be beaten twice by his opposite number in the league, but Ancelotti will be relying on his experience to allow him to do just that.
Marcelo V Dani Alves
They’re much more than opponents, they’re friends and teammates for the Brazilian national team. In the Clasico, however, all friendships will be lost and arguably two of the best attacking full-backs in world football will be on the same flank locking horns.
Luka Modric V Ivan Rakitic
They’re Croatian teammates, but on Sunday that will all be forgotten. Modric and Rakitic both play with a similar style, and will have hopes of donning the central role in the Clasico for their respective sides. It may not be the most physical battle, but it’s likely to be a technical one.
Neymar V Sergio Ramos
We’re likely to see Neymar tuck inside with every chance he gets, and it’s here where he might meet up with a hard Spanish defender who isn’t afraid to tackle. Will Ramos contain the tricky Brazilian or can the Barca star turn him inside out - that will be answered on Sunday.
Cristiano Ronaldo V Lionel Messi
As with every Clasico, these two always find themselves being compared to one another. Whoever has the better game will be regarded as the best player in the world, while the loser will be left having to deal with emotional fans. We're hoping that both can produce the goods on the day as it should make for a fascinating match.
