The standard of the referees in the PSL have long been rehearsed story of disappointing displays and last night was just another fixture in which a match official ruined the game for Chiefs.
There is no doubt that the club’s form has decreased since the start of 2015, but the fact of the matter is that the referees have not aided matters at all.
Against Black Leopards in the Nedbank Cup, the referee played a huge role in seeing Amakhosi eliminated from the competition.
His poor displays, which saw him give Leopards a goal that was offside, deny Chiefs penalty and send Stuart Baxter from the dug out into the stands, wrapped up a despicable display.
The referee’s poor decision making in that fixture ultimately impacted Chiefs’ performances and it saw them suffer a 2-1 defeat.
Now, in last night’s match against AmaZulu, the referee landed up showing nine yellow cards, with the majority of those being harsh, while Itumeleng Khune’s red card was also a ridiculous decision.
Thankfully Khune’s sending off didn’t impact the final outcome of the game, but with the games against AmaTuks and Polokwane City crucial to the league race, Khune’s skills will be needed.
It seems that Chiefs are getting harsh decisions made against them, and maybe the PSL needs to take action on the referees too.
Khosi fans, what do you think of this?
