With Tsepo Masilela turning 30 today, he joins a special crew of Amakhosi megastars who are 30-years-old or older who have personified what it means to be an authentic Chiefs veteran.
Here is that special class of Chiefs experts.
One could say he has been inducted into a class of players who seem to be peaking at the same time in their playing careers. Many feel that Masilela deserves a Bafana Bafana call-up because of the form he is in, despite being considered ‘old’ in South African football.
His right-hand man on the opposite flank, Pa Gaxa has remained a consistent performer ever since he returned from a brief spell in Europe a couple of years ago. This season, the attacking fullback hardly set a foot wrong and has far out performed many young right-backs in the country.
Masha needs no introduction in this regard as he has been one of the best captains and defenders in the league this season. Like Masilela, many fans feel his quality should be felt in the national team, but in spite of this, he remains a true warrior for Amakhosi.
Yeye, one of the Soccer Laduma Player of the Season nominees, has been nothing short of outstanding this season. He showed us that not only can he dictate the pace of the game as a holding midfielder, but can also create and score goals as a number 10. His versatility in this regard was one of the club’s deadliest weapons in the title race.
Has this group of ‘Elite 30’s’ impressed you this season?
