Amakhosi Fringe Players Who Should Make The Soweto Derby

Soweto derby fever is slowly but surely creeping its way into the local football fraternity and soon football fans will be buzzing with anticipation ahead of the match.

Kaizer Chiefs could well be preparing already ahead of the clash, and in terms of first team selection, there could be a few names that could look to the fixture as a springboard to either start their careers, or turn around their campaign.

The Fan Park crew takes a look at some of the players who may not have been on the team sheet often this season, but could get their lucky break in the biggest game in South African football.

Siphelele Mthembu

There is no doubt that Shaka Zulu is beginning to show the Amakhosi fans why he was re-signed by the club at the start of the Absa Premiership campaign. Last season saw Mthembu shine for Platinum Stars, and we are now seeing signs of what Mthembu’s can do.

Hendrik Eckstein

Dubbed the next Jabu Mahlangu, the 24-year old was gradually introduced to the Chiefs first team after being moulded as a youth product in the development scheme. Being introduced to over 80 000 spectators could be a daunting task for a youngster, but if he wants to be the next ‘Pule’, this could be the best platform to shine.

Katlego Mphela

Killer, like others in the Amakhosi team, is making his way into the starting XI. While others may be young players testing themselves against the country’s best at Naturena, Mphela knows that he is one of the country’s best. Deadly in front of goal when fully fit, Killer's experience could be handy in the derby.

Which Amakhosi fringe player do you think should get the nod in the Soweto Derby?
