With Clinton Larsen being the latest casualty in the Chippa United head coaching position, GladAfrica Championship side Ajax Cape Town have touted former Bafana Bafana captain Steven Pienaar for the job.
Chippa United owner Siviwe 'Chippa' Mpengesi has struck again. The eccentric businessman has a tendency of firing under-performing coaches, regardless of the duration of their tenures.
This time it was Larsen’s head on the chopping block after his side only managed to amass two points from a possible 15, and after five rounds of action, are yet to claim victory.
With the Chippa head coaching position now vacant, Ajax reckon 37-year-old Pienaar should give it a shot.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Everton star sent social media into a frenzy when he shared that he had obtained his UEFA A coaching diploma.
Pienaar, who retired in 2018, took to his social media platforms to announce the good news.
“I want to give glory to the Most High for giving me the strength to go through all this stuff. #Godisgreat,” he added.
His former club Ajax, who ply their trade in the second tier of South African football, congratulated Pienaar on his achievement, but not before ridiculing Chippa’s woes.
We hear @ChippaUnitedFC are in the market? Congratulations Mr Pienaar,” they tweeted.
Do you think Pienaar should consider a coaching gig in the PSL in future?
