The Nedbank Cup final is on the horizon and we, Mamelodi Sundowns need to be weary for one reason. Our opponents, Ajax Cape Town, are in the mood and it will take some stopping them at the rate they are going right now.
We could very come up against a young Urban Warriors side that is brimming with confidence with a hunger to win at all costs.
On the weekend, Ajax dramatically overcame a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 at one of the hardest places to gain points at in South Africa, by beating Bloemfontein Celtic in an Absa Premiership clash at the Free State Stadium.
The 16th of May will see two tactical masters in Roger De Sa and Pitso Mosimane battle it out for the Nedbank Cup title in Port Elizabeth but I feel De Sa has the edge in this encounter.
Much can be taken from such a gritty victory. For one, this shows that De Sa's boys are not easily intimidated in hostile situations.
Who knows what to expect when playing in PE but if Ajax can win away, with almost nothing to play for in the league, they most definitely can pull out all the stops in a game where so much more is at stake.
Let's not forget, De Sa has over the course of the last two previous seasons, reached several cup finals. And with him being unsuccessful in most of those finals, he will no doubt give everything in his power to put this competition in the bag.
Coach Pitso Mosimane recently said it’s all about grinding out results at the moment and that's true, but as it stands we even look like underdogs going into the final. He even suggested that the venue would be just like home to Ajax and we know that is an advantage in itself.
What do you say Masandawana, do Ajax have the edge going into the Nedbank Cup final?
