Last night saw Bidvest Wits do a serious amount of damage to our league title pursuit, after losing 1-0 to Gavin Hunt’s charges in the Absa Premiership. The loss puts us 10 points behind Kaizer Chiefs on the table, and to add insult to injury, we slipped down into the third position on the table.
This time last season, we were firing at all cylinders, piling the pressure on Chiefs who were quivering at the top of the table.
It took us a memorable nine match unbeaten run towards the end of the season to dethrone Amakhosi. However, it looks a different prospect this time around following the loss to the Clever Boys.
As things stand, it would take a serious downfall from Chiefs at the top of the table for them to surrender their 10 point lead with 10 games to go. Yes, they will have to face us, Orlando Pirates and Wits before the end of the season, but that’s not to say all will be lost for them. Winning from our part is required at all costs and dropping points like we did last night is not very encouraging.
Also, Pirates caught up with the pack at the top of the table and are just two points behind us in fourth position following our inability to deal with Wits last night.
We are now at a stage of the season where almost anything goes and if we don’t yield positive results, it could go pear-shaped for us. Still, the race continues and let’s just hope we accumulate as many points as we can going forward!
