What’s the story?
As mentioned, sportswear giant adidas revealed the official match ball for the keenly anticipated 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The recent creation is the 14 th successive ball adidas designed for the FIFA World Cup. Named ‘Al Rihla’ which translates into ‘The Journey’ in Arabic, takes inspiration from the architecture, boats and the national flag of Qatar.
According to adidas, the ball was designed with the environment at its heart and ‘Al Rihla’ is the first World Cup ball made using only water-based inks and glues.
Your Favourite?
That said, the official World Cup balls of yesteryear evoke fond memories, particularly the Jabulani edition used at the 2010 showpiece in South Africa.
Also, the ball used at the 2002 FIFA World Cup held in Korea/Japan is deemed to be a classic by many supporters. It’s gold look and iconic logo is still very much appreciated today.
