Thabiso “Skapie” Malatsi was a product of the famed Kaizer Chiefs youth academy, renowned for producing talented players who go on to achieve cult status.
Like many before him, the scourge of fame and fortune resulted in his downfall and the untimely ending of what was a promising career.
These days he dabbles in music as an aspiring gqom artist, with hits such as Mthando and Yizo to his name. However, two decades ago, the Daveyton-born man had fans dancing to a different tune.
Touted to be the next Jabu Pule (Mahlangu), his sharp footwork and skill set him apart from his peers and was tipped to achieve great things.
Promoted to the first team in 2001, the 36-year-old rose through the ranks from the under-15s all the way to the reserve side.
His fame however, was short-lived as he fell into the trap of drugs and alcoholism.
